With the obsession with beauty and weight loss, it’s hard to consider the fact that health nutrition diets actually exist. There are diets that are specifically to achieve and maintain health, to alleviate and prevent different types of diseases, and for athletes, there are specific diets that help them to achieve their ideal body type and performance level. A nutrition diet is usually constructed by a doctor or certified health professional and should not be too restrictive in nature.
One of the oldest, most basic nutrition-based diets is the food pyramid. It is the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s guide to health and nutrition. It includes the recommended servings of each food group, and is a great start for children to learn how to eat healthy, learn about portions and avoid junk food. Some modern nutritionists may denounce the food pyramid, saying that it is outdated and it is impossible to make sure you get all of the recommended servings, but it is considered one of the more popular nutritional diets. Other health nutrition diet plans are meant to help regulate different conditions and diseases. For instance, diets that are meant to control high cholesterol and high blood pressure employ large amounts of fruits and vegetables, lean protein, and low amounts of salt and saturated fats to keep arteries clogging; this, in turn, can alleviate the condition or prevent it from escalating. Similarly, a strict nutritional diet is needed for different types of cancer patients. Because so many nutrients are lost during chemotherapy, cancer patients generally need high levels of nutrient-rich foods like vegetables, fruits, whole grains and lean protein. Cancer patients also need a higher calorie level to maintain their strength. Athletes, especially professional ones need specialized diets. These diets are usually given to them by their team nutritionists. Athletes also require heavier amounts of calories (usually starting anywhere from 5,000 to 12,000 calories for some sports) and also need large amounts of vegetables and proteins in order to maintain their muscle health. The strain that 6-8 hour workouts have on a normal person is supplements by these types of diets. Of course, there are the vegetarian and vegan style diets as well. Vegetarians are typically more flexible, because although they do not eat any animal flesh, many may eat eggs, drink milk, or even eat fish (referred to as pescetarians). Vegans are more strict, as they do not eat any animal-produced products at all. This excludes milk, eggs, and even some types of breads. These people usually have soy proteins as their sole protein source.
However, for a normal person, a healthy diet that contains 2,500 to 3,500 calories is recommended. High amounts of fruits and vegetables, moderate serings of carbohydrates and protein. Combined with proper amounts of exercise. a health nutrition diet is definitely a great start for someone wanting to have excellent health and a long life.
