Combining a healthy diet and supplements may not seem like a bad idea, but they can also cause serious health risks in the long run if not used properly.

There are many diet supplements that are made with naturally occuring vitamins and minerals, and are usually healthier for the body to take in. However, there are the more popular ones that use hormones, such as ephedrine to speed up the heart rate and therefore burn more calories. However, these types of pills can cause heart palpitations and even heart attacks. These unhealthy effects is why a lot of them are not approved by the FDA (Food and Drug Administration). There are diet supplements that control hunger by delaying the messages sent to the brain by the body that it is in need of food. This can also become dangerous, because if the sensation is not there at all, involuntary starvation can occur, and may also cause a binge once the drug wears off. Another reason these drugs are not encouraged is because people rely only on the drugs, pay hundreds of dollars for them but rarely change their eating and exercise habits. As a result, they usually gain all the weight back that they lose, and end up yo-yo dieting, which puts almost unbearable strain on the body and even causes heart and digestive problems in the long run. So, although these types of diet nutrition supplements are popular and promise fast results, is it worth being sick for?
The best diet supplement there is lies in the dedication a person has to their own health and body performance. Focused dedication to a weight loss or training goal by itself may not render the fastest results around, but it is definitely healthier and a lot cheaper! A person should teach themselves how to eat right and exercise consistently to remain healthy; the great body will come along with it. That in itself is way better than having to take weight loss diet supplements.
